So Cindy and I have been on a mission lately to find mediterranean restaurants in the Twin Cities that actually have a solid drink menu with phenomenal gyros and bowls to match. You know how it is, you find an amazing gyro place, but they've got like two beers and maybe some wine, that's about it. Well, let's get into Spitz Mediterranean's north east Minneapolis location, because this spot checked every single box we were looking for.
Why Spitz Hit Different

First off, the beer selection here is legit. They've got several local IPA options, and their cocktail menu? Way more impressive than we expected. They even rotate seasonal cocktails, which honestly makes us want to come back and see what they're mixing up throughout the year.
For a Mediterranean restaurant, the drink variety is seriously impressive. Spitz gets it, sometimes you want a great gyro and a good drink to pair with it.
The Vibe: Casual, Comfy, and Perfect for Groups
The atmosphere is super chill and casual. They've got regular seating, bar tops, and high tops near the bar, so you can really pick your vibe. We noticed they have outdoor seating too, but it's pretty close to a busy street, so we stuck with indoor seating this time. No regrets there.
Something worth noting, they've got board games available if you want to make more of an evening out of it with a group. They have a bunch of options you can grab, and there's plenty of seating toward the back that's perfect for hanging with a group.
Oh, and if you're not in the mood to dine in, they're solid for takeout. Quick gyro or bowl when you need it? They've got you covered.
They also have a Woodbury, Minnesota location if that's closer to you!
What We Ordered (And What You Should Too)
Berliner Fries β Happy Hour Win

We started with the Berliner Fries off their happy hour menu, and wow. These aren't your basic loaded fries. The dish came loaded with olives, pepperoncini, tzatziki, and their house-made Berliner sauce all piled on. The best part? They use half sweet potato waffle fries and half regular fries. The combo hit just right.
The portion was perfect for the two of us to split as an appetizer. If you're with more than two people though, you'll probably want to order another round because everyone's definitely going to want a taste.
Max's Order: The Berliner Wrap

I got the Berliner Wrap with beef and lamb meat. Before you ask, it's not just a gyro in wrap form. The toppings list is way more extensive with feta, cabbage, carrot slaw, sumac, tomato, onion, cucumber, corn, and tzatziki. Think of it as a gyro with extra personality.
This wrap earned a 9/10 in my book. It's a nice switch up from your traditional gyro, and the flavor combinations were on point. They offer chicken, beef and lamb, or falafel as your protein options. You can even get all three if you're feeling indecisive. Portion wise, it was spot on. Full enough to be happy about it, but I wasn't dragging myself out of there.
Something worth mentioning is that they keep extra sauces behind the counter. I got the green sauce, probably their spiciest one, and it had this really unique flavor profile with good heat while pairing excellently with the wrap. Ended up using way more than I expected. Ask up front about the sauces, I don't remember seeing them on the menu.
Cindy's Pick: Medi Bowl with Gyro

Cindy ordered the Medi Bowl with gyro meat and gave it an 8/10. She loved how fresh everything tasted together. The pickled red onions, cucumbers, and olives mixed with tzatziki and hummus created this super refreshing combination. One of those bowls that just works on every level.
Why We're Already Planning Our Next Visit
We're already talking about coming back this winter to try their other wraps and bowls. Spitz has so many different options, and we barely scratched the surface. You can check out their menu here . Plus, we're curious about their seasonal cocktails when the menu changes up for the colder months.

Final Thoughts
Spitz Modern Mediterranean is going straight into our regular rotation for mediterranean restaurants in Minneapolis. The food's great, the drinks are better than expected with plenty of variety, and the whole vibe is just fun and relaxed. Whether you're looking for a quick lunch, a date night spot that won't break the bank, or a place to hang with friends over board games and gyros, Spitz delivers.
So why not a perfect score? Honestly, it comes down to the outdoor seating. It's right next to a busy street and doesn't feel like the most comfortable place to sit and eat. The indoor space is great, but better outdoor seating would've bumped this up to a 9 or 10.
Rating: 8.5/10 β Would definitely recommend, and we'll definitely be back.
