We're always searching for unique weekend getaways near Minneapolis, and the Mirror Cabin from the Cuyuna Cabin Collection had been on our list for months. After spending a winter weekend there in early December, we can confidently say it's one of the most memorable places we've stayed in Minnesota.
Why the Mirror Cabin Stands Out
The cabin gets its name from the reflective exterior panels that blend seamlessly into the surrounding forest. It's incredibly photogenic, and honestly, one of the most Instagram-worthy spots we've experienced. But beyond the aesthetics, what really makes this place special is the five acres of complete privacy and the stunning views of the mine lake.
Visiting in winter turned out to be an excellent choice. The snow-covered landscape and frozen lake created a peaceful, secluded atmosphere that felt like a true escape from city life.
The Hot Tub (Our Favorite Part)
The outdoor hot tub was hands down the highlight of our stay. It's pre-heated to about 100 degrees, which is perfect for soaking while snow falls around you. Spending an evening in the hot tub with nothing but trees and lake views surrounding us was absolutely worth the trip alone. The property also has a sauna and outdoor shower if you want the full winter spa experience.
What We Did
Since we visited in December, the lake was frozen over, so we couldn't use the kayak or paddle boards (definitely coming back in summer for that). But here's what made our weekend perfect:
- •Cozy fires in the fire pit with complimentary firewood
- •Way too much time in that amazing hot tub
- •Movie night using the indoor projector
- •Quality time together without any distractions
- •Taking endless photos because every angle is beautiful
The cabin also has a hammock and lounge chairs overlooking the water that we briefly checked out. It was too cold for us to enjoy them fully, but we could tell they'd be perfect for summer mornings or sunset drinks.
Inside the Cabin
The Mirror Cabin is designed for two people; it's cozy without feeling cramped. You'll find a comfortable queen bed, a rainfall shower, and everything you need in the kitchenette (microwave, toaster, hot plate, and your choice of coffee maker). The indoor projector setup made for the perfect movie night after we came in from the cold.
WiFi is available, though we mostly unplugged and enjoyed being offline for the weekend.
Location
Despite feeling completely secluded, you're only about 10 minutes from downtown Crosby, where you'll find breweries, restaurants, and shops. The location was approximately a 2.5-hour drive from downtown Minneapolis. If you're into outdoor activities, the Cuyuna mountain bike trails are just two miles away. We focused on relaxation this trip, but it's nice knowing those options are there.
What to Know Before You Book
No pets allowed
Unfortunately, Ernie had to stay home for this one. The Cuyuna Cabin Collection has other properties if you need a dog-friendly option.

There's one queen bed and the space is really designed for couples, not groups.
It's a luxury experience
This isn't a budget cabin rental, but for a special occasion or when you need a real escape, it's worth it.
Summer vs. Winter
We visited in winter and loved it, but we're already planning a summer return. Here's why both seasons seem like an amazing time to visit:
Winter
Hot tub + snow is an unbeatable combo. Everything feels cozy and romantic, though you can't use the water activities.

Access to the clear kayak, paddle boards, private beach, and all the outdoor spaces. Perfect for a more active getaway.
Our Take
The Mirror Cabin is about 2.5 hours from Minneapolis, making it an easy weekend trip. We came back feeling completely recharged and with a camera full of gorgeous photos. If you're looking for a romantic Minnesota getaway where you can truly disconnect and focus on each other, this is it.
Yes, it's pricier than your average cabin rental, but the privacy, amenities, and overall experience make it special. We left already talking about when we could come back.
